Today, I am going to talk about Parametric Design in Ansys which is most popular simulation and analyze program. The subjects I am going to mention are what parametric design is and why we use it.

Parametric Design so important to Design Engineer. We usually use for we catch most optimal value. Instead of making repeated applications , we are preferring “Parametric Design”.If you learned about of parametric design. We are starting my lesson with some pictures.

Firstly, I will work with basic “I profile”. For that, Geometry >> Design Modeler.

After this step,

Firtly , we are creating basic a “I profile” in DesingModeler.

I will apply default mesh, fix up the surfaces, and apply force to other surfaces in Static Structural part. After that, solution will be appearing. I don’t want the safety factor to be smaller than 2.

As you see our safety factor output 4.3 but we want to 2 so we are learning “Parametric Design” because Engineers want to work with little price and to optimum wall thickness.

I will return to part Design Modeler and I will apply the wall thickness parametrically.

After that we select Parameter Set in Workbench. Then We are connecting P2 with P3 and P4 as this picture. If we do in this way , when we change P2 , P3 and P4 will change automatically.

By the way , I am also doing parametric to safety factor part.

We by clicking update all design points , starting our solution. Firstly, We are using 8 6 and 4 millimeter wall thickness. As you see 4mm wall thickness below the safety factor. Therefore , We can’t use 4mm wall thickness in our design.

We found 8 6 and 4 mm wall thickness previous part. Secondly, we will find most optimal wall thickness for safety factor. Firstly , we are dragging to “Response Surface Optimization” where under the parameter set. Then we click to Design of Experiments part.

Than we click P6-t_mid part and we are specifing Lover Bound according to our factory’s values. For example , My factory want to 3mm for Lover Bound so I must select 3 mm fot Lover Bound. As you probably know our Upper Bound length is 10mm.After We arrange this things , we click update for our solution.

We find this values.

After the solution we come back Workbench area and click Response Surface. We are not making changes in this screen , We click update directly.

After that we click Response part and we view our values. We change our values manually by this pictures that I circumscribe. This method is easier than first method but it has some disadvantage. For example , We are necessary to strive for we are reach our result. This is something we don’t want so we should use automatic solution in Ansys programme.

Thirdly, we are find the most optimized wall thickness equal to 2 safety factor. We are click Optimization part in Workbench area. I am telling what you to do step by step.

1- We are select Objectives and Constrains part in Optimization area.
2- We are select our safety factory minumum in parameter area.
3- We are arrange type in constraint section because we want to
safety factory ≥ Lower Bound.
4-Than , we are write 2 because we want to be 2 safety factor.
5-This is very important, We are select our main wall thickness in Parameters area. 5 number is our main wall thickness.
6- We are select minimize in type area and click update.

When our project finishes , we are click candiate points and wiev our solition. As you see our optimize wall thickness 4.3291 mm for safety factor 2. Thus , we are finish Parametric Design.

Thanks for reading my writing. See you next my blog writing.

Good Bye.
